From an early age, Mario Cámara was trained by local hunters in the jungles of the Yucatán Peninsula. They taught him how to read the jungle, understand wildlife behavior, and navigate a world that few outsiders ever truly experience. Those lessons extended far beyond hunting itself. They reflected a way of life deeply connected to nature, where hunting was not measured by trophies, but by sustenance, respect for wildlife, and traditions shared among family and community.
For more than three decades and countless days spent in the field, he continued learning alongside local hunters whose knowledge of the jungle had been passed down through generations.
Those experiences inspired a vision: to build an operation founded upon local knowledge, ethical hunting, conservation, and authentic outdoor experiences. Those experiences eventually became the foundation of Peninsula Hunters.
Although our backgrounds and experiences are different, we share a common purpose: protecting native wildlife, preserving the traditions and culture of the Yucatán Peninsula, and providing authentic hunting experiences rooted in respect for the land.
We strongly believe that ethical hunting is one of the most effective tools for the conservation of native species and the long-term preservation of wildlife habitat. That belief continues to guide everything we do.
We proudly recognize the contribution of Jordi Gene, founder of Tankab Outfitters, whose vision helped demonstrate the important role ethical hunting can play in wildlife conservation throughout the Yucatán Peninsula. His commitment to responsible hunting, respect for local communities, and the preservation of wildlife helped lay important foundations for those who followed.
Gastón Bañuelos spent more than a decade with Tankab Outfitters, where he developed a deep appreciation for ethical hunting, professional guiding, and local traditions that continue to influence Peninsula Hunters today.
Those experiences eventually became the foundation of Peninsula Hunters.
Conservation requires more than good intentions—it requires vision, investment, commitment, and action.
Together with partner & Director Antonino Cascio and biologist Faustino Hernández, ongoing efforts are focused on improving habitat for native wildlife throughout our managed areas. Areas once used for agriculture and cattle production are gradually being transformed through reforestation projects, water development initiatives, wildlife monitoring, and strategically placed food plots designed to benefit native species.
These efforts reflect a long-term commitment to conserving native wildlife and the landscapes upon which they depend.
Our guides and staff bring a wealth of expertise and unique insights to every expedition.
